DEVOTIONAL: Matthew 11:28

"Then Jesus said: 'come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.'" It's normal for us to at times feel drained, be it emotionally, physically or both. Sometimes we don't know where or how were going to get the strength to get through the daily tasks we set for ourselves, how we're going to meet work deadlines or the constant demands of life but somehow, we always do, we are still standing despite the challenges we face. The fact that we are able to persevere is no coincidence, it is  purely through the grace of God. He gives us the strength to persevere, to push through even when we are tired and feel we cannot go any further.  This Bible verse reminds us of Jesus's promise to give us rest. All we need do is go to Him with our problems, speak to Him in prayer - sharing our worries and fears with Him. We then need to leave it there, trust Him and believe that He will work it out for us. Simply put, give it to ...

FASHION – What to Wear to a Bachelorette Party as a Guest

Image
It’s June! Before we know it wedding season will be upon us. The bachelorette party is a big deal, it’s fun, flirty and girly but what is the appropriate dress…what to wear is a question I always find myself asking. There are a few factors to consider when putting together outfits for a bachelorette. 1.       What the bride says goes If the bride or the bridesmaids provide information as to what colours to wear or what colours not to wear DO follow suit. It’s courteous and makes things easier for you in that you can narrow down your outfit idea to a certain colour or omit outfit ideas that do not align with the requested colour. Personally, I don’t like to dictate colours but some people have a preference and that’s fine too. It’s also an opportunity to shop for something new, should you not have anything that fits the request 😊 . The general rule, just like for a wedding, is not to wear white unless the bride requests this. 2.      Theme...

DEVOTIONAL: John 14:27

"I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid." We worry and we are are afraid of many things - we are concerned about our children, the weak economy, we worry about the health and well being of aging parents and are concerned for the state of the world and the future of it,  to mention but a few things. This verse reminds us not to worry or be afraid. It reassures us that God knows what lies ahead for all of us as individuals.  This world pulls us in various directions, it's one thing after another and it's exhausting. This verse reminds us of Gods gift to us, the gift of peace of mind & heart. He is asking us to trust Him in all circumstances even though it is our nature to worry and try to control the outcome of things we have no control over.  God never wanted us to be burdened and afraid. He wants us to be free of these things and to place them fully in His ca...

BEAUTY: Bowing to the new brow?

Image
I’m a girl who grew up in the 90’s – big hair inspired by the 80’s were still a thing, red lips (I’m thinking Cindy Crawford with her signature mole) and smoking cigarettes then too was “cool” (there seems to be a push for this to be cool again – Make. It. Stop.) Another 90’s signifier are “plucked” eyebrows, remember Pamela Anderson from Bay Watch , now think of her brows (not her other distinguishing body part!) or Britney Spears in her debuting music video.   I’ve received many compliments on my naturally shaped brows, which are full and so never took to the plucking trend. I hailed the Kardashian era which made having fuller brows, well shaped and gelled into place trend. I felt right at home! Lately, I’ve been noticing a shift back to the skinny brow. Kendall Jenner and Olivia Rodrigo are amongst celebs sporting thinner brows. So, are thin brows making a come-back? Let’s take a look. According to Teen Vogue, my observations are correct – thin brows are making a comeback ...

DEVOTIONAL: Psalm 63:8

"My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me." As we experience life, its hardships and its blessings we come to see Gods hand in it all. Emerging on the other side of the valleys of life, one especially learns that God has carried us through and when we marvel at the wonderful things in our life and in the world we cannot help but to see how God has blessed us. How then can our souls not cling to He whom has never left our side and never let us down.  Today, let us give thanks to God for never abandoning us, lets give thanks for both good and bad life experiences because ultimately they become our testimony to Gods steadfastness and how good He has been to us.  Amen.

DEVOTIONAL: Acts 2:38

" Peter replied, 'Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the holy spirit. '" Sometimes life can be difficult, the everyday decision making - we start to question if we've made the right decision, ponder on its consequences (good or bad) that it can lead us to wish there was a handbook on how to do life. The good news - there is! The Bible. The bad news is that the author is demanding and has high standards which can feel unattainable. The great news would be that the author (God, if you didn't know by now😼) is gracious, He understands that we are fallible and is quick to forgive us (sings Justin Bieber Everything Hallelujah).  We have the Bible which serves as a manual to life. In this scripture, Christians are told to repent of sin, turn to Christ for forgiveness and by so doing accept and fully experience the gift of the Holy Spirit...

DEVOTIONAL: John 3:16

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." How often as human beings do we feel not good enough, not chosen? How can we feel this way knowing how much God loves us that He sacrificed His Son for us? Its human nature to feel less than sometimes but as Christians we must remember that we are chosen, that we are good enough and the proof is that God sacrificed His Son for us.  Trying to understand what God did and why He did it from the position of being a parent, it is hard to fathom. Honestly, there is no one for which I would sacrifice my  child for and yet, this is what God did for us. This is what He knew He was going to do from the very beginning and all to save us, sinners.  If this act of God is not enough to show us how much God loves us, how much he cares for us then I don't know what is.  Today, lets remember that we are loved, we are chosen. That our salvation was on...
