DEVOTIONAL: Proverbs 11:13

 "A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter."

Gossip. I don't think anyone can honestly say they have never engaged in gossip. In an unhealthy way, it brings people together. People unite in their dislike for a certain individual but it is never without harm. Nothing good really comes from it as its often slander of another. Yes, sometimes, especially as women, we need to vent to a friend, to get what is bothering us off our chests, it feels theraputic but the danger in it lies when untruths are spoken, when harm is wished upon the other person - when our thoughts and words become ugly. This is the risk and we should take steps to avoid it. The best is to talk to God - vent to Him. He is a safe space and will not repeat what's been said to another. 

This morning let us ask God to keep us out of the presence of those who gossip. Help us to separate ourselves from the conversation when gossip rears its ugly head. Let us not engage in or be a willing receiver of gossip. Lord, help us instead to speak highly of others, help us to always see the good in others no matter what they have done to us or our loved ones and Lord, when it is difficult to say something good, teach us to hold our tongues and rather say nothing at all. Where something lays heavy on our hearts lets us reveal it to you because You have the power to change the situation, You are a safe space.

Amen.

BEAUTY: Bowing to the new brow?

I’m a girl who grew up in the 90’s – big hair inspired by the 80’s were still a thing, red lips (I’m thinking Cindy Crawford with her signature mole) and smoking cigarettes then too was “cool” (there seems to be a push for this to be cool again – Make. It. Stop.) Another 90’s signifier are “plucked” eyebrows, remember Pamela Anderson from Bay Watch , now think of her brows (not her other distinguishing body part!) or Britney Spears in her debuting music video.   I’ve received many compliments on my naturally shaped brows, which are full and so never took to the plucking trend. I hailed the Kardashian era which made having fuller brows, well shaped and gelled into place trend. I felt right at home! Lately, I’ve been noticing a shift back to the skinny brow. HOME: PSHB - The ‘Cancer’ of Trees

When we first viewed the house we eventually chose to be our home it was the three beautiful trees on the front lawn that captivated us. Large, beautiful, old trees that would come to provide many a shade on sunny days. I remember the previous owner pleading with me to never cut down the middle one and of course I was agreeable because why would we ever want to cut down such a beautiful tree?!   Enter PSHB… I had never heard of  Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer ( PSHB) until May 2024. A message was sent in our neighborhood's WhatsApp group alerting residents of a bug that has reportedly infested trees in the area and we were encouraged to inspect our trees for any tell tale signs of infection.  PSHB is a tiny beetle, originating from Southeast Asia that has infested host trees in countries including South Africa, Australia, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA) just to mention a few.  According to Australia's Department of Primary Industries ...
