DEVOTIONAL: Colossians 3:23

"Whatever you do, do it with all Your heart as doing it for the Lord not for man."

The sayings "always do your best" and "put your best foot forward" come to mind when I read this Bible verse. Everyday by the grace of God, we get up and go about doing all the things that need to be done, be it at home or at work. I don't think anyone gets up in the morning and thinks about how they're going to half ass what they need to do for the day. We get up and step out with the intention of giving our best.

There are also times when we feel that what we do is not appreciated or recognised and so we tend to become despondent. For example, our children may seem ungrateful for the things we do for them or sacrifices made for them, or the hard work and extra time put in at work may go unrecognised or you may have been overlooked for a workplace promotion even though you and everyone else knows you are the best person for the job. Situations like these can leave us feeling down and out, hopeless and frustrated. In these moments it helps to remember this very Bible verse - to do the work as if it is for God and not for man. We should seek to be pleasing in the eyes of the Lord and not in the eyes of man.

Remember that God knows your heart and even if others don't appreciate or acknowledge what we are doing, God sees and is working it all out for us.

We are now more than half way through this year. If not yet, soon we will start feeling fatigued. Let us ask God to help us to persevere, to push forward. Let us ask God to help us to not become despondent but to continue to try our best. Let us today remember that God sees our efforts, He knows our hearts and will reward us for being good, faithful servants.

Amen.
