DEVOTIONAL: Matthew 20:28
"For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many"
"For even the Son of Man..." I understand this as, if the Son of Man, Jesus, was called to serve and not be served then surely, we are called to do the same - to serve and not be served.
This Bible verse is a reminder to us to serve others. This message was originally meant for Jesus's disciples but would also apply to us as we are His disciples today. This verse calls us to follow the example of Jesus, where we live a life of sacrifice and service to one another and to love and care for each-other as He does us.
This Bible verse is a far cry from the reality of life today - where there is a sense of entitlement and a culture of not wanting to help others, looking out for ourselves and ourselves alone and not caring for the needs of others. Yet this is God's word, He expects us to serve, help, sacrifice and love .
We all have God-given talents, maybe we write well, maybe we are good teachers, maybe we are gifted musicians or confident speakers - we are called to use these talents to serve God.
Let us today pray for God to reveal the talents He has given us and for Him to give us the courage to use these talents to serve others and ultimately, Him.
Amen.
