DEVOTIONAL: Proverbs 3:9
"Honour the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce."
Jesus is working all the time- He is protecting us from unseen evil, He has planned our futures and is walking with us everyday. Sometimes we forget this but He never forgets about us. We are constantly on His mind because He loves us that much.
The Word, tells us not to worry and yet so often we are overcome with anxiety for the future, worrying about what today and tomorrow will hold. When we fall into this trap, let's remember that Jesus is working all the time, that He is protecting us and has hope for our futures.
It is easy to get lost in our own thoughts but here God is asking us to honour Him and by so doing - by honouring Him in everything that we do - we are to constantly and consciously carry Him in our hearts and minds, instead of constantly worrying. By offering our best to Him we are showing Him that He is important to us.
How do we honour God with our wealth? Tithing can be a contentious topic, especially in these difficult economic times but take even your finances to God in prayer. Sometimes it's simply not possible to give 10 % to church. Do what you can, help who you can, God sees and I do believe He understands when we cannot tithe 10 %. God has given us all special gifts - some of us are good teachers, others have the gift of the gab, you may be a good writer - use these God-given gifts to glorify His name. Our children are our greatest work. Raise them to know and honour God. Thank Him for the gifts that come from Him, ask Him to bless your money and for Him to guide you in spending it.
Include God in every part of your day. I knew an elderly lady who would say that before she does anything or goes anywhere she asks God to go before her. Include Him by saying a quick prayer before a big presentation at work and believing that He will deliver what we ask, we are to be at peace, knowing that by taking it to God we can rest, knowing that He is in control - you see, we have replaced worry and anxiety with faith by brining the matter before God. I know it's hard to do, especially in the midst of stress but the more we do it, the more we will find it works.
Today, let's honour Him in all we do, inviting Him into our homes, hearts and places of work. Let us talk to Him throughout the day about our cares and by doing so, feel our burdens being lifted from our shoulders.
Amen.
